Description

Gorge View Retreat is Katherine’s newest campground and caravan park. Nestled on the Katherine Gorge escarpment, at the doorstep of Nitmiluk National Park, Gorge View Retreat is your ultimate outback campground destination. Gorge View Retreat limits the number of guests to ensure maximal guest enjoyment. Our exclusive Katherine River frontage and focus on creating a unique guest experience means the Gorge View is the premium campground and caravan stay, with ultimate access to Nitmuluk National Park – without the crowds. Gorge View Retreat is perfectly suited as your base for mountain biking the world-class mountain bike tracks of Nitmiluk National Park, enjoying the pristine bush, and world class hiking trails including the Jatbula Trail. Gorge View is a superb bird-watching site, given the undisturbed bush scape. There have been sightings of rare Gouldian Finches on site.

    Firewood is to be collected OFF SITE - please collect your firewood from the Stuart Hwy roadside on your way to Katherine.
    Fires strictly in designated fire pit areas only.
    No driving on grassed areas.
    We are a remote location. We have to have our rubbish collected especially. Your mindfulness in waste is appreciated.

    Eco Safari Tents

    The Eco Safari Tents at Gorge View Bush Retreat have 2 King Single Beds. They are located approximately 50 metres from the shared bathroom facilities, and include linen and towels.
    Guests in the Eco Safari Tents have access to a fully equipped camp kitchen, which has gas bbq and cooking, communal fridge and seating.
    Guests in the Eco Safari Tents have all the fun of camping without the hassle!

    Glamping Canvas Bell Tent

    Our Glamping Canvas Bell Tent has a comfortable queen size bed, and a lovely fire pit. You can feel like royalty in our glamping tent out at the doorstep of Nitmiluk. The glamping tent has access to our shared bathroom facilities. The glamping tent is not powered, but if you need to power up, you can plug in the shared bush kitchen. The standard rate includes 1 queen bed, for 2 people. If you would like more single beds added, this can be done at a charge of $50 per single bed.

    Safari Tent

    The Safari Tent is very comfortable with 2 king single beds, a bedside table, lamp and pedestal fan.
    Fresh linen and towels provided.
    The shared bathroom facilities are excellent, and there is a camp kitchen where you can prepare your own feast, or you can order food through the hosts - specialty is pizza!
    Relax by the campfire (please collect wood offsite), and get a good night's rest before tomorrow's adventure.

    The Ultimate Barunga Festival Package

    Thursday 6 June – Sunday 9 June 2024
    Departing Darwin
    The Ultimate Barunga Festival Package Tour by Gorge View Bush Retreat is designed to capture the best NT Aboriginal cultural experiences as well as many amazing Top End landmarks including Litchfield and Nitmiluk National parks.
    Day 1
    Our tour begins in Darwin departing on Thursday the 6th of June at 7am after pickups from various local accommodation providers. We travel to beautiful Litchfield National Park and get to experience beautiful waterfalls a-plenty (so definitely pack your bathers).
    Most of the day is spent around Litchfield National Park swimming and some small hikes. We then in the afternoon travel to the township of Katherine home of the Katherine Gorge.
    We finish the day with a sunset experience at Gorge View Bush Retreat, enjoying dinner and a few drinks looking down to the start of the Katherine gorge and the meandering Katherine River.
    Day 2
    After a magical sunrise walk to overlook the Katherine Gorge, (optional yoga session), we drive to Mataranka to swim and explore the beautiful natural thermal pools and relax in the waters.
    We depart Mataranka and return to Nitmiluk for a world-class 3.5 hour Nabilbil sunset dinner cruise along the Katherine river where it has cut a path through the ancient sandstone escarpment which makes Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) created by Bulung, the Rainbow Serpent and the home of the Cicada. The cruise is led by amazing and knowledgeable guides who can speak to the geology, flora, fauna and Aboriginal mythology of the region.
    Day 3
    We travel to the community of Barunga home of the Jawyon people to experience the annual Barunga festival where the people of the community open there lives up to show the amazing art, music, dance, cultural activities and sport (AFL, basketball and softball usually feature).
    This is a big day and usually finishes late as we enjoy experiencing the famous Barunga Concert before our return to our accommodation in Katherine to retire.

    Day 4
    We attend the multiple award winning Top Didj Cultural Experience and Art Gallery. We also take this opportunity for those that would like to take a scenic helicopter flight over Nitmiluk (helicopter flight not included in price).

    We then travel onto Leilyn, Edith Falls and hike to the top of the escarpment for a swim in the falls.
    We then continue our journey onto Darwin with stops in Adelaide River before dropping off at accommodations of your choice between 4 and 7pm depending on the day.
