The Katherine Region holds many events throughout year, each containing fun and excitement for the whole family.
The following events for 2013 are:

Katherine Races: A Saturday 18 May, 2013
A great horse racing event with fashions of the field, bookies, bar, food and entertainment.
Katherie Country Music Muster
Location:Tick Market Complex, Katherine

Barunga Festival opens its doors - June 7-9
For the 28th year, the community of Barunga will host this much loved Territory event.
Held annually on the June long weekend in a small Indigenous community south of Katherine, the Barunga festival is one of Australia's longest running cultural festivals.
This iconic festival is home of the ‘Barunga Statement’ presented to Prime Minister Bob Hawke outlining the request for a Treaty between the Commonwealth Government and Indigenous Australia.
Visitors from around the country are invited to visit the Barunga community, to camp and be part of a vast program of cultural and artistic workshops, dancing ceremonies, traditional bush tucker gathering, didgeridoo making, basket weaving and a huge 3-day line up of sport and contemporary music, including headline artist Gurrumul Yunupingu.

Children 12-18yrs - $10 (under 12 free)
Entry fee valid for 3-day festival.

Camping available in Barunga community & accommodation options in Beswick and Katherine.
Barunga is located 70kms south of Katherine on the Central Arnhem Highway & fuel is unavailable for sale Barunga.
Katherine Fringe Festival: 21 - 22 June 2013
This new event on the Katherine calendar will feature a newly produced multimedia performance ‘Gorrdondolmi’ the story of the Rainbow Serpent written produced and performed by Katherine artists. There will be a wide variety of free street performances, dance and music as well as a film feature and writers festival that will showcase some the Territory’s best writers.

The Katherine and District Show: Friday 19th and Saturday 20th July 2013
The Katherine and District Show Society is a major community event held in July each year. It includes everything from horse and cattle events to a campdraft and rodeo. Adults as well as children can enter one or more of the many classes, ranging from art and craft to cooking and needle work. There are also agriculture, picture and pet displays, a dog-jumping competition and live entertainment in the main arena. All the usual side shows and trade exhibitors offer lots to do and see for locals and visitors alike.
Katherine Festival: August 2013 Dates TBC
The community comes together to enjoy a wide variety of arts and entertainment over a period of ten days. The event has included Mayoral Debutante Ball, Katherine Prize Art and Craft Acquisition Awards, exhibitions, workshop activities, Aboriginal culture, Family Fun Day, unique cross cultural experience of the Chinese Dragon Boat Races on the Katherine Gorge in Nitimluk National Park, Flying Fox Walk and Talk,' Main Event' including markets, car show, and plenty of entertainment. Borroloola Easter Barra Classic
Location: King Ash Bay Borroloola
Date: TBA April 2013
Individual and team fishing comp with prizes and competitions throughout the weekend for all types of anglers. Entertainment over the weekend includes dancing, music and cane toad races.
NT Barramundi Classic (Club Marine Nationals)
Location: Banyan Farm, Daly River
Date: TBA April 2013
It is a hotly contested Barra Competition and it is by invitation only.

The Katherine Game Fishing Club Big Horse Creek Barra Classic
Location: Victoria River, Timber Creek

XXXX Gold Barra Nationals

It is said this is a fishing competition not to be missed with great fun and entertainment held every night, not to mention the fishing competition and prizes.

Friday night kicks off with a pre party, Saturday is the B'n'S and Sunday has all the rodeo action

For a true bush style rodeo head to Daly Waters for this event. Includes Campdrafting and Gymkhana and of course a party.

Never Never Festival
Location: Mataranka

A magical weekend filled with fun for all the family.
The weekend starts with a cattle auction on Friday afternoon followed by a family evening of “Walk-Up” bush yarns and poetry and a camp oven stew and damper meal.
Saturday a Family Fun Day in the park, book signing at The Stockyard Gallery.
Sunday a Bush Chapel service and markets with something for everyone. Final schedule to be confirmed

Merrepen Arts Festival

This indigenous arts festival explores the many mediums utilised to produce unique artforms.

Timber Creek Festival
Location: Timber Creek

The Timber Creek Festival will be showcasing local Indigenous talent and traditional dance.
Events range from whip cracking to fire sculpture, boab nut painting and a children’s circus. There will be bush toy making, didjeridu art and spear throwing competitions along with bush food and market stalls.
If you haven’t had the chance to experience the local indigenous culture then this is an event you shouldn't miss. So come along and experience a truly unique experience that you and your family will love.
